Computer problems with our videos?
I am sorry if you having difficulties with the videos on www.llmc.org. Unfortunately there are a dozen reasons why they may not be working well for you. I will list some of the many reasons so you can maybe try a few steps.
Some of the basics:
-Fast Internet, or broadband (cable or DSL) is required. Dial-up Internet access is just too slow.
-The video should run in Windows Media Player. It will buffer first, and then open. If you have a fast Comcast connection it should open in several seconds or less. If you have a slower Verizon connection, it might take some time.
-If the video keeps stopping on you, let it download completely first. If you pause the video and watch the bar moving from left to right, you should be able to tell when the entire video is completely downloaded. Once completely downloaded, you will also be able to fast forward and back up to wherever you want to go on the bar.
-If you are using Windows and Internet Explorer, you may also need Adobe Flash Player installed. This is free and usually already installed on every Windows PC that uses the Internet. If you are not sure, you can go to www.adobe.com and get Adobe Flash Player for free.
-Playing long videos (more than a few minutes) is demanding on a computer. If your computer is experiencing performance problems off the Internet or on other Internet websites, chances are that you will have problems with our videos. Other considerations include your computer’s hardware; age of the computer, amount of RAM, video card, etc. can play parts in it.
-The first obvious thing I would try is rebooting the computer; Windows likes to be rebooted fairly often.
-The server or your Internet service could be really busy; maybe try later or a different time of the day.
-Of course computer viruses and spyware can seriously cut down on a computer’s performance; make sure you are running an up-to-date and reputable Internet threat protection software.
-Windows performance can be affected by the amount of “temporary” files building up in your computer. I would do these steps when you have time. In XP go to: Start button/ All Programs/ Accessories/ System Tools/ Disk Cleanup. Run it on your C: drive. It can take awhile especially if you check off “Compress Old Files” so plan on it running for at least an hour if you haven’t ran it in a while.
-There are still other reasons why our videos might not be working well for you. Check with your local computer expert for more ideas.
-Oh, and a few prayers couldn't hurt either. :-)
